The Possibility of Export Blackberry Production Many Purépecha farmers regularly grow a form of wild, organic blackberries in the mountains. Unfortunately, the return on this crop in Zamora is meager; only about $.10 for 2 pounds of the crop!! The blackberries are the largest I’ve ever seen and incredibly delicious. Organic certification of their blackberry crops and transport to the U.S. could potentially move all of the villages out of poverty. We will keep you posted about our attempts to expand on this possible source of export income for the once pueblos. Please donate generously so that we can continue this important tradition.
